Week 23 Missions

Welcome back, students and parents! I hope your weekend proved tonic for the mind and spirit. As for me, Molly and I are still settling into the new apartment. We can't get over the breathtaking view of the New York City skyline!

I am also happy to announce that I was able to renew my Gamestop membership this weekend, among other important errands I had to run around Brooklyn :)

ELA 5

  • I can't wait to continue to dive into The Phantom Tollbooth. Let's read as much as we can this week! We're going to learn about allegory, imagery, and more word painting. This is one of the greatest books you will ever read.
  • This week, we will have a Reading Comprehension Exam on Wednesday, a Grammar Test on Thursday after Word Duels, and a Vocabulary/Spelling Quiz on Friday.
  • On Friday, your final speeches are due for this year's Speech Bee! Next week, we will begin memorizing them after our final POWER edit.
ELA 4

  • The characterization in The Bridge to Terabithia is fantastic. I want to use this incredible book to highlight character building in a story, and why this is infinitely more important than plot. Therefore, let's read through as much of Brigde to Terabithia as we can!
  • This week, we have a Reading Comprehension Exam on Wednesday, a Grammar  Test on Thursday after Word Duels, and a Vocabulary/Spelling Quiz on Friday.
  • On Friday, we will continue giving presentations. Remember: your presentations need to be written out in your journal (don't "wing it") and I apologize to those who were unable to present last Friday. Class has been excellent, fourth graders! I go to lunch glowing after spending an hour and a half with you :)
ELA 3

  • Can you believe it, third graders? We wrote our FIRST essay! I had a good time reading them and I'm looking forward to having you present them in class on Friday. What better subject to write about than MINECRAFT? I'm going to hand your essays back today with corrections. I need a second draft by Wednesday!
  • This week, I will hand out your new spelling words AND vocabulary words. We will build an arsenal of power words that will rival the fourth and fifth grade words. Spell them and define them...then fall in love with them. THOSE are our Quarter three goals.
  • You have a Reading Comprehension Exam on Wednesday, a Grammar Test on Thursday after Word Duels, and a Spelling Quiz on Friday.
